Get that thing out of your ear
Dear Editor:
If there's one thing I can't stand,
it's cell phones. They're great in case of emergencies, but nobody wants to
be chewing on a hunk of chicken fried steak while the person at the next
table is talking to their Aunt Betsy in El Paso who just passed a gallstone
the size of a baseball.
I
can't tell you how many times I've been wiping the counter and overheard
someone talking about things that are best left said in private. And these
people don't talk quietly. Nosirree! That cell phone rings and their voices
go up three notches on the decibel level. It's as if they want everyone to
know they have a phone and that they have compassion for their aunt who
still can't sit down in El Paso.
I just wish they would have compassion
for the rest of us and turn their phones off every once in awhile.
One day, just for kicks, I taped a
cell phone under one of the tables and called it during the lunch rush. When
it rang, almost everyone in the place reached for their phones, thinking it
was theirs. It was hilarious. And what was even more funny, I rang that
phone three more times during the afternoon and got the same reaction each
time.
So, ladies and
gentlemen, the next time you find yourselves dining in the Stinky Creek
Saloon, the best eating establishment in
this town, use some manners and get that thing out of your ear. Who knows,
one day it might get stuck in there, and THEN what will you do?
Sincerely,
Bud Henderson
Owner, Stinky Creek Saloon
