March Madness Stinky Creek style

By Tracy Farr
Editor, The Daily Spittoon

The Mighty Band from Stinker Land will celebrate their version of March Madness Saturday as they play marches written by John Phillip Sousa and Henry Fillmore in front of Hank's Department Store on the Square. The event will last from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. and may break a Guinness Book record for the most marches played by a high school band in front of a department store.

"Our main goal is to play the snot out of these marches for as long as we can hold out," said Band Director Marty Hester. "We're going to start out with some easy Sousa marches then hit 'em hard with some Karl King monsters. And if we happen to break the record, then so much the better."

According to Hester, the band will perform Semper Fidelis, The Washington Post March, The Liberty Bell, Stars and Strips Forever, Rolling Thunder March, Lassus Trombone, The Royal Scotch Highlanders, The Walking Frog and many, many others.

"I'm not much into basketball," Hester said. "I much prefer the down-and-dirty business of playing Sousa marches at ungodly tempos. And if that ain't madness, I don't know what is."

While the Marching Stinkers play, the band's booster club will hold a bake sell in order to raise money for their upcoming trip to Disney World.
