Mayor not amused with video

By Tracy Farr
Editor, The Daily Spittoon

A Stinky Creek teenager recently posted a video of Mayor Herbert Reese on YouTube which is driving the mayor bananas.  Mayor Reese says his image is not to be monkeyed with, and that the teenager will be prosecuted.

"I have never been more humiliated in my life," Reese said at a recent town council meeting. "I believe in freedom of speech, but this has gone too far.  We God-fearing Americans need to put a limit on some of these freedoms before we have no more freedoms to limit."

The video, which was put on YouTube by 14-year-old Chris Spelling, shows Mayor Reese's face on the body of a monkey at the Fort Worth Zoo.  The monkey is climbing ropes, eating bananas, scratching himself, chasing female monkeys, and throwing things at visitors.

Spelling said he doctored the video and posted it on the internet as a way of expressing his views concerning the way the mayor is handling his job.

"I think a mayor should do more than just shake people's hands and announce that it's cold outside," Spelling said.  "Mayors should want to help the people in their community.  Mayors should want to fix sink holes and haul away old broken down cars that are left on the side of the road.  Our mayor just looks the other way.  He needs to stop monkeying around and do his job."

Mayor Reese addressed Spelling's accusations at the council meeting by saying, "There must be something seriously wrong with this young man.  I make a motion that before this young man can return to school he must take a psychiatric exam and go through counseling.  In the wake of all the school shootings done by students with mental problems, I think it behooves us to require this obviously troubled young man to seek some help.

"Putting people's heads on monkeys has got to be a sign of a deranged, psychotic individual," Reese continued.  "Our children deserve the right to go to school in safety, and this young man presents an obvious danger -- not only to our children and community, but to himself."

The motion died due to a lack of a second.

The town council's next meeting is scheduled for the fourth Tuesday in the month.
