Pumpkin toss is set for SaturdayBy Tracy Farr The 97th Annual Stinky Creek Pumpkin Toss will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Crappie County Memorial Park. Prizes will be awarded for best carved pumpkin, largest pumpkin, and most hideous pumpkin. The pumpkin toss will begin after the awards ceremony. "Our annual pumpkin toss is something I look forward to every year," Mayor Herbert Reese said. "It's a great time for families to get out and enjoy the park, visit with friends and neighbors, and most importantly, get rid of thousands of Jack-o-lanterns in a creative way." Jack-o-lantern judging will begin promptly at 2 p.m. Entrants need to have their pumpkins in the judging area no later than 1:30. "We've had some really spectacular Jack-o-lanterns in the past," Mayor Reese said. "The people of Stinky Creek come up with the most amazing pumpkin designs I've ever seen. Their designs are so unusual and creative that it makes you wonder just where they get their ideas. I'm positive that this year's contest will be no different." The pumpkin toss will begin immediately following the awards ceremony. "This is my favorite part of the whole day," Mayor Reese said. "Watching those pumpkins fly through the air and then splatter into a thousand pieces -- well, there's just nothing like it in my opinion." Prizes will be given to the longest throw according to weight and the biggest splatter according to size. Onlookers are advised to wear stain-resistant clothing. |
