Daughter says punishment unfair

By Tracy Farr
Editor, The Daily Spittoon

A Stinky Creek teenager got into a bit of trouble this weekend and is howling about the punishment her parents have given her. Her parents have little sympathy, but a local lawyer says she might have a case.

Thirteen-year-old Chelsea Seas knew her parents didn't want her to wear her pink short shorts and tube top to the mall, but she did it anyway.  She stuffed the clothing into her purse, headed for the mall, and when she got there, she changed in the women's bathroom.

Unbeknownst to Chelsea, her grandmother was shopping for sandals, saw her granddaughter literally "hanging out" with her friends, and quickly called her parents.

"No girl should dress the way I saw my little Chelsea dress," Margaret Seas said.  "I looked the other way, pulled out my cell phone and ratted her out."

For punishment, Steve and Belinda Seas have grounded Chelsea until she's 18, won't let her watch her favorite show Desperate Housewives, and for the next month are making her wear a Barney The Dinosaur bra and panties set under a Barney sweat suit.

According to Randall Levi, Chelsea's lawyer, wearing Barney is cruel and unusual punishment.

"Grounding is okay, taking away the TV is okay, not getting to see friends is okay, but making a teenager wear a Barney suit is just plain cruel," Levi said.  "I believe she has a case and I'm willing to fight for her until the end of my days."

The Seas don't see what all the fuss is about.

"I don't see where some lawyer has the right to tell us what we can and cannot do to our daughter," Steve Seas said.  "Some parents beat and starve their children and he's getting all hot and heavy because we're making her wear a purple dinosaur.  If he's expecting to get paid for this, he's going to be sorely disappointed.  Chelsea also lost her weekly allowance."

When told about the lack of allowance, Mr. Levi acted surprised, dumped some papers in the trash and refused to make any more comments.
