Rockersize comes to town

By Tracy Farr
Editor, The Daily Spittoon

It's new, it's exciting, it's fun, and every person between the ages of 7 and 107 can benefit from the new exercise craze called Rockercise.  Classes start Saturday in the high school gym and everybody is invited to come and rock their muscles back into shape.

"This is the most exciting form of exercise I've ever been involved with," said Lizzy Oldman, local Rockercise instructor.  "Even though people of all ages can benefit from it, Rockercise gives our senior citizens an excellent aerobic workout that eliminates the joint-breaking stress of other programs."

According to Oldman, participants rock back and forth in rocking chairs for a total body workout that is not only heart-healthy, but is fun, too.

"And the music is just fabulous," Oldman said.  "At the beginning levels we play the hits from the 1950s.  As they progress, we add music from The Rolling Stones, Queen and The Who.  In the advance stages, it's nothing but AC/DC, Kiss and Nirvana -- and let me tell you, an hour of that is like running a marathon."

Eighty-three year old Agnes Childers has been participating in Rockercise for a year and says she can really feel the difference.

"I used to just sit around the house, feeling sorry for myself, not doing anything, just wasting away," Childers said.  "And then I sent off for Rockercise on video. Within weeks I could feel a difference.  I felt more confident, I didn't feel so clumsy, and now I have a set of abs I'm not embarrassed to show off.  I'd recommend Rockercise for anybody.  If it can turn me into a flab-free grandmother, it can do the same for anyone."
