Student gets stuck; bus driver fired

By Tracy Farr

Editor, The Daily Spittoon

A Stinky Creek Elementary School kindergartner got stuck under his bus seat trying to get his fallen backpack while the driver stood by and did nothing but laugh. The student, with the help of other students, finally unstuck himself. The driver, whose actions were recorded on the bus surveillance camera, got stuck in a parental backwash that eventually led to the loss of his job.

What made matters worse for the driver was the video tape was somehow posted to YouTube.

"It is just plain shameful to see that grown man standing there, laughing his head off, while my son begged for help," said the boy's mother who wished to remain anonymous. "Those drivers are supposed to help our children, not laugh at them. I'm glad the school district took action, because if they hadn't of, I surely would have."

The driver, whose name is being withheld, was seen on tape stopping the bus, getting up from his seat, and then walking down the aisle where the student was. The driver then looked down at the student -- who couldn't be seen on tape -- and then doubled over in laughter, literally falling down in the aisle. Other students came to the rescue of the stuck student while the driver laughed.

"We instruct our drivers that they should be courteous and helpful when it comes to our young riders. This gentleman was neither," said Stinky Creek Superintendent Marcus Spilling. "We cannot have insensitive people working for us. Therefore, he was immediately let go."

Spilling said he has no idea how the video got posted on YouTube, but he said it was quite popular.

"It's amazing how viral this went," Spilling said. "It doesn't put our school district in a great light, but it is definitely funny to watch. That is, I guess some people find it funny. Actually, a lot of them find it funny. Not that I find in funny, nosirree! Not me."
